Why shop indie?

1/3/2019

When you shop at an independently owned business, your entire community benefits:
The Economy
Spend $100 at a local-owned business and $52 of that stays in your community.
Spend $50 at a national chain and keep $6.50 in the local community.
Spend $50 online with a remote vendor with no sales tax collected and keep not one penny in your local community.
Local businesses create higher-paying jobs for our neighbors.
More of your taxes are reinvested in your community--where they belong.
The Environment
Buying local means less packaging, less transportation, and a smaller carbon footprint.
Shopping in a local business district means less infrastructure, less maintenance, and more money to beautify your community.
The Community
Local retailers are your friends and neighbors—support them and they’ll support you.
Local businesses donate to charities at more than twice the rate of national chains.
More independents means more choice, more diversity, and a truly unique community.

Now is the time to stand up and join your fellow individuals in the IndieBound mission supporting local businesses and celebrating independents.

It is with much regret, that I have decided to close our Alley & Elm location in Sallisaw, OK. As a business owner, I love for my coffee shops to be a representation of who I am and the visions I have for the growth of my business. Unfortunately, being human, I can only be in one place at a time and much of my time is spent in Morning Sky Boutique in Vian. I would love to be able to disperse my time more evenly between each place, but at the time, I am unable to do so and I believe that is a poor representation of my vision. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to my Sallisaw customers, but I have to do what is best for my family and my business. Mary and Margaret at Alley & Elm were a joy to be around and worked so hard with us to try and make the shop a success. We love and appreciate everything they have done for us, and we will miss them tremendously. With that being said, Oasis Coffee House is still continuing to grow and expand to new levels. Stay tuned in the next few weeks for a very exciting announcement for what is to come. Here is a little hint...

xoxo,

It's Fall Y'all

In retail, the seasons come much earlier than what nature says. But, lucky for us that just means that we get some cute clothes even sooner than we should! Fall is my absolute favorite time when it comes to fashion. There's just something about the popular colors and styles that we see in the fall that doesn't compare to spring & summer fashion. It also means cooler weather which always puts me in the mood for a hot salted caramel mocha. Fall = best season ever. (side note--- be on the lookout for 5 new flavors coming to our shops soon).

At Morning Sky, we love the new trends that are already coming into our store this season! Check out this edgy look that looks great going through an airport for a weekend trip to NY or LA. The Free People leather jacket has to be one of my favorites so far. And the OKLA Nash cap has been a best seller ALL. SUMMER. LONG.

Here's where to purchase.

Another look I always love is something that looks like you came straight from the adobe streets of Santa Fe. Earth tones with a little pop of color or a statement jewelry piece is a classic & easy look that literally anyone can accomplish. The cuff in this picture is only available in-store because it is so unique. We found the maker of this jewelry in Dallas last month at market. The leather on all of her cuffs come from the bridles, saddles, and breast collars from horses that were in the Civil War. Each piece is full of history & unique in it's own special way. I am in love with this line, and if you are ever near our store that should be a good reason to stop in & see them in person.

Another reason I am stoked for fall this year is because Callie Prier (owner of Morning Sky Boutique) and I are planning the very first annual Fall Y'all Market in Downtown Vian. This will take place the last weekend in September during the Fin & Feather Fall Festival. We hope to catch some shoppers on their way to & from the Fin. We are so excited about this & hope that it will be a huge success. If you are someone you know is interested in being a vendor, contact us from the info above or click the link below to fill out a Vendor Application Form. We would love to have you!

Coffee & Clothes. No Better Combo.

Coffee & clothes. There is literally no better combination. That is one thing that makes Oasis so special because you can have a nice hot latte while you shop in two BEAUTIFUL boutiques in rural Oklahoma. It's nothing like you would ever expect to see in Vian & Sallisaw. So I encourage you to come in and see for yourself. But, if you can't make it, I wanted to share a few of my favorite items in Morning Sky Boutique right now.

First off, I got SOOOO many compliments on this dress yesterday in the store and on social media. What I love about this dress is how easy it is. I literally had on no jewelry (besides my wedding ring) and you would think I spent 2 hours in the bathroom that morning trying to get ready for prom. I think that is what makes it so special. The embroidered detail, the beautiful colors, and the bohemian flow of the skirt and sleeves is just so flattering on anyone who puts it on.

Okay, my next featured item are... SHOES! And not just any shoes, but some of the hottest trends in the industry right now. If you've been in public at all in the last couple months, there is no doubt that you've seen the new "loafer" trend. I have to admit, I've loved seeing this since it started! I love just a slip on shoe that you can literally just run out the door in. So easy and super cute! Check these 3 new styles out online, and if you love them. Click the links to purchase!

My personal favs... the "Seychelles Survival Grey" almond toe loafers. Super cute! And they go with anything!

Finally... this blazer is everything! If you are a business professional and need a more formal look, this is the perfect blazer to be professional and trendy at the same time.

Blythe is wearing it here more casual paired with a cute pair of Dear John jeans and opened toed Toms heels. It goes either way!

Blush is so popular right now. Not just for summer, but it is definitely carrying over into the fall and winter this year. We just got back from Dallas Market, so trust me, it's going to be EVERYWHERE this year.

I love this look. If you do, shop here...

This IS my first rodeo...

6/30/2018

I love hearing and using the phrase, "This isn't my first rodeo." Probably because pretty much my entire life has consisted of the sport of rodeo. I grew up around horses and could ride before I could even walk. When I was a young kid, I ran barrels and poles on some great horses. I then traveled all over the country while I was in high school as a member of the Old Fort Days Dandies. In college, I was on the rodeo team at OSU. And even though I'm not nearly as active in riding anymore, I am very much involved in the sport since my husband is a PRCA bull fighter. My family was also a producer of the Haraway Stampede & Wild West Show for 27 years. Judd (my husband) and I have a HUGE passion to produce that rodeo again and bring it back to life. Hopefully that will happen again in the very near future. Needless to say, rodeo has pretty much been a significant part of my life.

However, this part of my life is something that I am completely new to. Unlike rodeo, I don't know everything there is to know when it comes to coffee. Or how to run a small business. Or even write a blog for that matter. I literally just got done googling, "How to write a blog." So, if this isn't "right" or not a typical blog post that you're used to reading, I apologize in advance.

One thing I do know, that I have discovered about myself in the last few years is that I am always up for change and learning new skills. In March of 2017, I randomly decided that I wanted to open a coffee shop. I guess it was always just one of those cute little dreams of mine that I never thought would actually happen. (Kind of like becoming a famous singer, or winning a million dollars). From what I can remember, I hadn't even made a pot of coffee before that. Heck, I hardly ever even drank coffee for that matter. All I knew at the time was that owning a coffee shop was something that I knew I could learn how to do and that I would love doing. Plus-- I loved mochas so what better way to get free mochas all the time than owning and making your own. (Kind of joking, kind of not).

Picture
So, I immediately started researching everything I thought  I needed to know about owning a coffee shop. I called friends of mine in the industry, started visiting some well known (and highly successful) coffee shops and roasters in the local area, and started doing some taste tests. In September 2017, with the help of the awesome staff at Topeca Coffee, I opened the doors to Oasis Coffee House with the confidence that I could serve an entire basic coffee shop menu to the customers that came in my door.

Since then, I have significantly improved my barista skills, learned new tricks of the trade, AND opened my second shop in downtown Sallisaw, OK. My number one goal as the owner and operator of Oasis Coffee House is to give my customers the best experience I possibly can while they are in my shop. The coffee, the atmosphere, the customer service, the employees, and the entire experience should be like nothing you have ever had before.

Another thing I have decided to completely embrace is the #bossbabe movement. I absolutely LOVE owning my own business. Sure it's hard at times with finances and always trying to keep up with newest trends, but there is so much reward to being a small business owner. I think my number one reason is because I "get to" go to work everyday (not "have to"). I can't even begin to explain how great of a feeling that is. Another great aspect is the flexibility. As much as I love being in my shops, there are times that I do love to travel with my husband. It is so comforting knowing that I have some great employees and friends that I can completely trust with my business while I am on vacation or at a rodeo with Judd.

So I guess the whole point of this first blog is to encourage all of my readers to really do what makes you happy. Even if it does seem a little far-fetched at the time. There is so much to learn and so much do in this short time that we have here on earth, and what is the point of any of it if we aren't happy with our lives? Learn, discover, and do.

Seriously, if I can do it then there is absolutely no reason that you can't.

And while you're on your journey, please be sure to come in and try out some Oasis Coffee House coffee. I can't wait to meet you!
